Farewell to Sundays at Strathearn… for now

Sad to say, the first wave of our Sunday morning rec play sessions at Strathearn School has now come to an end. There were about 16 of us for the last morning on four courts, meaning that the games were constant; it’s just that the interval between them got longer as the morning went on. By the end, Helen almost had to put a timer on the breaks as well as the games.
If you never made it down there to play on a Sunday morning, honestly I think you missed out. As you can hear from the video below, compared to playing at the bottom of a very deep and very echoey well that any game at the Queens Leisure Complex sounds like, it’s the equivalent of playing in a library. You can actually hear the score when it’s being called by the server. Mostly. It’s airy and light, and it’s a nice playing surface too.
Hopefully at some point in the future we’ll be back, but for now Sunday games move to midday at Queens for the next few months at least. And if you ever need a cracker team that can assemble and disassemble a portable pickleball net in a hurry, you know where to come…
